The West Highland White Terrier Club Of England Open Show  1^st June 2024

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge this lovely show, I enjoyed my day. Although Westie numbers are declining, I found some excellent examples of the breed today. There were a few incorrect mouths that need to be watched.

Graduate Dog (2,1a)
1^st Vysniauskiene’s Harvey Baltoji Aurora at Cherryleague (Imp). Of good type, decent head with enough skull, distinct stop with dark pigmentation & pleasing expression. Front okay, would benefit from less furnishings on the outer leg. Liked his body properties, deep chest, compact, with a level top line. Correct double coat & moved well.

Mid Limit Dog (3,1a)
1^st Britten’s Krisma Fine Fettle. Super male of correct type. So well balanced. Liked his strong masculine head with a distinct stop, keen expression, short wide muzzle & dark pigmentation. Straight front with ample bone & substance, correct shoulder placement running into a short, deep body with a level top line. Well-muscled wide rear with excellent angulation which moved him around the ring with drive & style. Beautifully presented. Had the ring presence I was looking for in a male. BD & BIS.
2^nd Bouwhuis & Hamilton’s Llovall Adam at Ladyleigh. Not the maturity of the winner. Good head with enough skull, distinct stop & pleasing expression. Well-built body with a deep chest, correct ribs & level top line. Moved freely and was in good show trim.

Open Dog (5,2a)
1^st Gale’s Bellevue Street Trader. A touch heavy all through but liked his type. Really came into his own on the move. Good head with enough skull, broad muzzle & pleasing expression. Front okay, plenty of bone.  Very deep short body, well-constructed rear assembly which moved him with freedom & drive. Nicely presented. RBD.
2^nd Foster’s Thozow Master of The House. Another good type, more refined but presented a pleasing picture. Attractive head & correct expression, super neck & shoulders with a short body. Moved well fore & aft.
3^rd Thompson’s Lynnsto Full Circle with Ashgate. Handled well on the table. Masculine head with excellent body properties. Just needs a little less furnishing on head & legs to complete the picture.

Puppy Bitch
(1st) Thompsons Hillcloud Echo Wave by Ashgate. Very feminine 11 months. Attractive head with a dark eye & perfect bite. Correct shoulder angulation which gave her a pleasing run-in into a well-made short body. Good textured double coat. Moved with drive & personality. BPIS.

Junior Bitch (1)
1^st Vysniauskiene’s Nina Ricci Blataj at Cherryleague. Very stylish. Attractive head with good expression, a touch long in muzzle. Correct shoulder placement running into a short compact body. Well set-on tail with plenty behind which moved her with drive. Super harsh coat & beautifully presented.

Novice Bitch (1)
1^st Stankiene & Stankus’s Vivolunar Impres Me. Lovely type, head okay with good eye. Straight front into correctly laid shoulders. Short deep body with well angulated, strong rear. Once settled moved freely. Beautifully presented.

Mid Limit Bitch (6)
All 6 of these bitches, young to old, were of excellent breed type & it was a pleasure to judge.
1^st Britten’s Krisma Winter Sun. Beautiful bitch full of breed type. Super head with enough skull, defined stop & correct expression. Straight front with good bone & substance. Correctly constructed shoulders which gave her a pleasing run-into a short deep body. Muscular hindquarters with good angulation, tail nicely set on. Moved freely with drive. Super coat & condition. Complimented my Best Dog. BB, BOS & RBIS.
2^nd Burns Ch Burneze Mad About The Girl. I can understand why she is a Champion already. Very pretty & commands attention with her free showing spirit. Good to go over & well balanced all through. I would just prefer a bit more of her.
3^rd Bouwhuis Llovall All By My Self. Another of excellent breed type. Handled well with little to find fault. Looked a picture stood & moved well with drive.

Open Bitch (1)
1^st Storey’s Ch Lizandcris The New Hope at Nossimp. Super type. Well balanced all through giving her a good outline. Pleasing head with dark eye & correct expression, defined stop & wide muzzle. Straight front with enough bone & substance. Correctly angulated shoulders running into a short deep body. Strong hindquarters with good muscle tone. Moved freely & beautifully presented. Pushed the BB hard. RBB.

Gail Dixon
